29th September 2020:

This is my third stay at Bopeep Farmhouse, and as on previous visits John and Eileen are welcoming hosts. The room was really clean, the bed comfortable, and the breakfast excellent.

Tips:

We would strongly recommend a meal in the Cricketers Arms, just a short walk from Bopeep. The food was excellent!

Eileen and John couldn’t have been more helpful. The room was lovely with magnificent views and breakfast was spot on. Their dogs are well trained and they’ll only let them be around guests when I asked to see them. They’re calm gorgeous border collies and very well behaved. For an older cottage the bathrooms are modern with a great shower. Comfy bed too. I was very well looked after.. thank you I would definitely return ;)

Tips:

Walking is the thing to do.. walked the shorter loop up the ridge to alfriston.. stunning scenery. Also close to the coast and right in the South Downs.. beautiful place! Perfect weekend trip

Really lush and comfortable accommodation with some extra special touches to make you feel at home. Slept so well and just felt at home straight away. The hosts are friendly and helpful, and the lovely John gave us a much needed lift to the conveniently located pub. We just couldn’t walk that last mile! Breakfast was delicious, cooked by the very capable Eileen. I would highly recommend this B&B and may very well return myself if I’m in the area again.

Tips:

The Barley Mow is an excellent pub and just a mile up a quiet track to reach. Excellent menu and service. Well worth the trip! Bo Peep is in such a beautiful setting and so well located for the South Downs Way walking, it’s an absolute gem. Stay here!!!

What a wonderful situation for a great B&B. Bo Peep Farm sits on the side of an old coaching road just under the South Downs. Great walking from the door step, either along the coaching road to Firle, Berwick, Alfriston or onto the South Downs Way. Glyndebourne is only a few minutes drive away if you don't fancy walking to the Opera. The accommodation has every thing you need, very clean, comfortable bed, views across the open country side, great pwoer shower in the on-suite, great choice of teas, coffee, tasty biscuits and a bowl of chocolates which is always kept topped up. The greakfast is very good and tasty which sets you up for the day. Eileen and John are great hosts full of information and ideas and make you very welcome as well as schooling you on the local pronunciations of the villages. Looking forward to our next visit

Tips:

We found the Cricketers Arm in Berwick a recomdation from John a great pub for drinks and food, in fact I had the best steak there I have ever had.

I stayed at Bopeep while walking the South Downs Way, and it was definitely one of my favourite places of the whole trip. It's located just off the trail, and within easy walking distance of several places worth visiting. The room was lovely, and it was evident a lot of thought had gone into what a guest might need. The hosts were extremely helpful, and to be honest everything about the stay was faultless. I have every intention of going back some day!

The breakfast in the morning was exceptionally nice, and we were very well looked after throughout our stay. Would recommend this place to anyone wishing for a perfect countryside stay.

Our hosts were the most charming, helpful and delightful couple. We had some great walks thanks to their advice. Our room had all the facilities we needed and was warm and welcoming. We slept better than we have for some time! This was our first trip away from home after lockdown and we were very reassured by the high standards of cleanliness and social distancing.

Tips:

We had a delicious dinner at the Royal Oak in Lewes and a scrumptious high tea with prosecco at the Church Lane Tea Room in Seaford.

This was our third stay at Bo Peep and we have also arranged for an American friend to stay there over the past few years. John and Eileen are warm and welcoming hosts, the rooms are extremely comfortable and the situation of the Farmhouse nestling under the Downs is perfect. We would highly recommend it!

Good food at The Ram. Although we haven't eaten there yet the Rathfinney Estate has opened a restaurant which would be worth exploring.

A lovely, characterful house, with friendly, helpful owners. Our room was very clean and comfortable. We would love to stay there again and were sorry we could only spend two nights there this time.

Tips:

The Barley Mow does evening meals and is only a mile away. The Bloomsbury Group had houses in this area which are interesting to see. There are other properties such as Alfriston Clergy House, and Nymans which are well-worth seeing. There is easy access to the South Downs Way.

Dear Eileen and John. Susan, Beatrice and I enjoyed our stay immensely. We found the room to be cosy and comfortable. The breakfasts were very generous and tasty. We loved the fresh local items. Your location was perfect for us- I was so happy that we could easily do our Downs walk and visit the peaceful old villages of Berwick and Alciston on foot. Your Bo-peep Farmhouse is a beautiful haven and such a comfortable base for travels in the area. You are great hosts and we would so much like to be back one day.

Tips:

An ideal location for quiet walks of any distance. We enjoyed the access to the public pathways and the chance to visit the medieval villages of Alciston and Berwick in foot. Bo-Peep Farmhouse would be a perfect place to stop along a complete hike of the South Downs way.

What a glorious spot, tucked right into the South Downs, with walks from the front door. John and Eileen are perfect hosts, friendly and informative but never intrusive. Their gorgeous little b&b is scrupulously clean and the pictures don’t do the rooms justice - our twin room looked quite cramped in the photo but was actually spacious and stylish. And, oh the perfect peace at night! Mum and I stayed only one night but you coukd easily while away a week here, there’s so much to do roundabouts, besides walking the beautiful South Downs Way.

Tips:

Chraleston Farmhouse - you can walk the ancient coach road to it from Bo Peep Farmhouse - offers a fascinating glimpse into the eccentric and saucy lives of the Bloomsbury Group of artists.

We loved every minute of our stay there. John and Eileen were very welcoming; the room was clean and comfortable with an excellent view of the garden; the breakfast was perfect. I could not fault it and plan to stay there again.

Tips:

There are some lovely walks and both Charleston house and Berwick Church are nearby. Unfortunately, Charleston is closed on Monday and Tuesday, the days we were there. We ate at the Barley Mow and the Cricketers, both within walking distance, and walked on one day to Alfriston village and along part of the South Downs Way. Beautiful.

Tips:

The South Downs on a sunny day! Lifts the spirits. Lullington Heath is great for butterflies and very few visitors. Be aware that the car park in Jevington is max 2 hours only which just gives you time to go up and come straight down again, so not quite sure what it’s for. But a glorious visit, nevertheless.

This is a very welcoming, comfortable, well-run B and B. The owners are extremely friendly and helpful. We enjoyed meeting them and all their other guests too. Tips:

If you like walking, this B and B is really well situated, very close to the South Downs Way. For lovers of culture, there are masses of places to visit nearby. Charleston Farmhouse is a shortish walk away, Glyndebourne, Lewes, Rodmell and Alfriston Clergy House are all very close. Don’t miss the Seven Sisters and Cuckmere Haven! Wonderful old farmhouse in a lovely quiet location (apart from the fantastic bird song obviously!) and equally wonderful hosts. John very kindly dropped us off at the pub and again at the top of the hill for the next day's walk (very steep = very grateful!). Sad not to see Mrs Mills (ask John when you get there) and also sad to leave for the grubbiness of Eastbourne....will be back to Bo Peep soon!

Tips:

We were approaching the end of the South Downs Way - Bo Peep B&B is half a mile below the Bo Peep car park on the Way so the B&B is very handy for walkers. The pub at the end of the road (about a mile of easy walking) is OK but nothing special - to be honest after walking 16 or so miles I would have eaten anything.

Stunning location. Lovely walks from the front gate in all directions. And or short drives to wide range of local places of interest. Our favourite was Charlston house a 20 minute walk across the fields and we were delighted to hear that Bopeep farmhouse was lived in by one of the Bloomsbury set too. Comfortable stay (sunlit rural views from both bedroom windows and a good bed too) with great attention to detail – e.g. tiny tooth brush kit, Laundry bag, dairy milk choc snacks, excellent breakfast coffee just as we asked for it to be, lots of local information both written and personally recommended. Friendly hosts and other guests, though not intrusive.

Tips:

Good pub with interesting menu in nearby village of Berwick where you mustn’t miss the beautiful church. The walk from the farmhouse up onto the South Downs Way was a bit steep but perfectly doable and is also driveable by another route. The potter at the top of the lane and her bird baths are absolutely fascinating. We saw pheasants strolling around everywhere!

The rooms in BoPeep Farmhouse are lovely, comfortable, and equipped with everything that you would want - much more than you get in a five star hotel. Breakfast is tailor made for each guest. This is a wonderful place to stay and I would strongly recommend it.

Tips:

There is so much to see around the area, particularly the church in Berwick with the fantastic frescos of the art deco era. Also wonderful walks.

Thank you so much for your hospitality- you run a fantastic place. We really enjoyed our visit and were so grateful for your kindness, when our appetite for the outdoors was beginning to waver, in giving us a lift to the pub and to Alfriston through the lashing rain. We hope to return in better weather.

We had an absolutely lovely stay. A lovely spacious room and the little bowl of chocolates was a delightful treat after our day's walking. We very much enjoyed the quality of the provided toiletries. The breakfast was absolutely superb, both the cooked food and the selection of delectable fresh fruit.

From the first hello to the fond farewell when we left after two days, my wife and I felt we were among friends. We could not have asked for better hosts. Having wandered past the farmhouse on numerous occasions, and imagined staying there, we were not disappointed -by the outlook, accommodation, generous breakfasts, or by our treatment from John and Eileen. We will be back!

Tips:

Good atmosphere at the Rose Garden Inn at Alciston; murals in Berwick church; beautiful Saxon church at Bishopstone (near Seaford); lots of excellent walking from Bopeep car park on the Downs above the farmhouse, and along the old Coach Road to Alfriston. Walk along the Cuckmere River from Alfriston to Seaford Head; or from Alfriston to Wilmington, Folkington and Jevington. There's a lifetime of walks to be had on the Downs!

Only minus is steep narrow steps up to the three rooms .This could be difficult for someone with any degree of disability . The turnoff from the main road on to Bo- Peep road is quite dangerous as there is a hill just after, so needs to be approached wire caution . Watch out for the Barley Mow pub and take it steady after that till you reach the right turn .

Tips:

A short drive leads to the top of the hill and a well known walking path over the Downs . Charleston is close by on the main road and plenty of other interesting places not far by car . The coast is not far away and Newhaven ferry can be viewed from the top of the hill at the end of Bo- Peep Road .

Tips:

The location is beautiful - a quick drive to the top of the hill and you'll get incomparable views of the South Downs. Also if you're a Bloomsbury fan (Or even if you're not) a trip (or walk) to nearby Charleston Farmhouse is a must. As is the Berwick Church. We enjoyed the neighbouring town of Alfriston very much. Much Ado Books was a highlight. A wonderful part of the world. Want to go back this weekend!

A very enjoyable stay. Our hosts were warm and friendly (not OTT !!), and helpful, both practically (chilled our wine but also had excellent prosecco to buy) and with local knowledge. Comfortable room with liberal toiletries and even chocolates.....of course we shouldn't but....! Very convenient for Glyndebourne. We would certainly hope to go again but Book Early! Many thanks to Eileen and John.

Tips:

Seek and take advice from the owners, see above! Charleston (odd opening times)is walkable and we particularly enjoyed Berwick church which we had not previously known and is also walkable.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We had everything we needed including a ride up to the start of a wonderful walk (ramble) on the downs. The location is very good, close to the ancient town of Alfriston, Berwick church and Virginia Woolf's home at the Charleston farmhouse.

Tips:

This property is as old and historic as many other buildings in the area. This means low ceilings so watch your head. My wife and I preferred the 'Star' Inn in Alfriston for lunch indoors and the outdoor tables and garden at the 'Cricketer' both in Alfriston. For tea and scones we loved the tea gardens at Litlington close by.

Eileen and John are extremely welcoming and friendly hosts. They run a very proffessional bed and breakfast with comfortable and well kept bedrooms. The rooms have all the items that you would normally expect to find in a hotel.Assorted teas, coffee and chocolate drinks along with nice bisciuts.Toiletries are supplied in the on suite bathrooms along with nice absorbent bath and face towels. The rooms have hairdryers, boxes of tissues and good wardrobe space. At the breakfast table there is all that you could want and of course if required a very nicely cooked breakfast.

Tips:

The location is beautifull nestled below the Sussex Downs. With some very nice walks in all directions. We especially liked the walk from nearby historic Alfriston along the Cuckmere river to the Cuckmere Haven where the river meets the sea. The accommodation was of a high standard from a comfortable bed and super shower to the finer details. There was a wide selection of tea and coffee (even hot chocolate) as well as complementary toiletries, so even if you forget a few basics they are there for you. A wonderful base for walkers as it sits half way between Firle and Alfriston. John and Eileen were very helpful with advise on walking routes and where to eat.

Tips:

Rose Cottage Inn, situated in the picturesque downland village of Alciston, serves delicious food at competitive prices and is within walking distance of Bo-Peep along the old coach road. In Alfriston, Badgers Tea Room is a must for delicious beverages and food (especially their elderflower and gooseberry cake) as well as The Tudor Tea Rooms. For walkers, try Alfriston to Jevington and lunch at The Eight Bells in Jevington or walk from Bo-Peep Farmhouse to The Beanstalk tea room for a heavenly selection of cakes in a delightful garden. Berwick church, with its allegorical murals, is also well worth a visit, particularly after visiting Charleston.

We came to the area for a wedding, and decided to make a little weekend of it. Staying at bo-peep was perfect. We took an easy country walk, straight from the front door, and there is plenty to see and do right from the doorstep, without having to be in "town". But mostly, the owners were so helpful and hospitable, showing our toddler the dogs, rescuing is from our walk when we were delayed (without us even asking) and dropping us at our activity, so we wouldn't struggle with bags. A great place to stay with lovely hosts. Thank you.

Bo-Peep Farmhouse stands in a gorgeous rural setting, within walking distance of the South Downs Way. The Fishers are lovely hosts - kind, knowledgeable and very helpful. Good walk-to pubs in nearby villages for good food evening meals. We walked home to Bo-peep Farmhouse from the nearest (20 minutes), down still country lanes under starlight!

Tips:

Rose Cottage Inn and the Cricketers Arms for evening meals. The superlative Seven Sisters Cliffs and coastline walks are nearby. Nearest best access to them is by car via the two carparks at river level Cuckmere Estuary off the A259 - the East carpark for the estuary walk and walk to Beachy Head - West for the Customs houses walk overlooking the estuary and the Sisters.

Eileen and John could not have been more welcoming or kinder to us. We were walking on the South Downs Way and were rather late, and John actually drove up to see if he could see us coming as it was dark. The room was warm, spotlessly clean and well equipped. The beds were so comfortable with beautiful linen. The Jacuzzi bath was wonderful for easing aching muscles! We slept really soundly. There was a lovely range of different teas etc in the room and chocolates which were a welcome treat after our 14 mile walk. Eileen even found us a slice of cake to have with our tea. In the morning breakfast was delicious and Eileen was on hand to offer advice about our route and things to do in the area. All in all a real home from home. I would definitely stay here again if I was in the area.

Tips:

We were too exhausted to bother going out to the pub, so can't comment on that. We found the scenery on the downs really beautiful though and enjoyed visiting Alfriston where we bought a delicious picnic lunch in the post office which doubles a delicatessen. Not especially cheap but really good quality food including local cheese.

Eileen & John were very welcoming and helpfully provided us with a range of options in terms of exploring the area on foot- we weren’t very prepared! We got super drenched on our first day and so it was a bonus to have our boots dried out ready for the next hike! Plenty of hot water was also appreciated as were the extra little touches in the bedroom.

Tips:

If you like the B&B concept then we would most certainly suggest a few days stay at Bo-peep Farmhouse; there is so much to see in and around the locality. We particularly enjoyed Charleston House; if you are walking in the direction of Firle make sure you stop off at the Beanstalk Café.

Places to visit: Bodiam Castle (40 minutes drive East), Batemans (the house of Rudyard Kipling, which is 30 minutes drive East), Lewes town (15 minutes drive West) with its amazing architecture, including: Castle, Anne of Cleeves house and not forgetting the Priory. It was a delight staying at this B&B. The owners were very welcoming, thoughtful and caring. They went beyond the call of duty in making our stay a good and comfortable one by offering to pick me up from the station, booking a table at the local pub restaurant, drying our clothes after a downpour and helping to dry out our shoes. The room was very clean and comfortable with plenty of space and tea making facilities. I would highly recommend them.

Tips:

There is a lot of information available at the B&B and the owners again are helpful in this. Great location for Firle and Charleston house and for walks on the South Downs.

The bathroom is perhaps the weak spot - we prefer a bath to a shower, and the basin is small and rather cramped, with no shelf to put things on. But overall a lovely room in a beautiful place. We appreciated the kettle and biscuits, and the chocolates, and you looked after us wonderfully well. We would love to come again.

Owner Response:

Such a shame that you didn't say about the bath because the room with the bath was available during your stay and you could have had it. I admit the shelving in the en-suite is not over the basin, but as the house is 400 years old, it was a bit tricky to fit everything in, so sadly, that had to be a compromise. But glad it didn't ruin your stay and we look forward to you coming back.

We were very pleased with the accommodation and would not hesitate to come again. You were both very friendly and breakfast was brilliant. You are doing a very good job of running a B & B.

Tips:

We ate at the Rose Cottage Inn on two occasions. Very good food and service and they were extremely helpful especially with our disabled friend. We went to East Dean, Burling Gap and some of our old haunts from when we stayed there 30 years ago. The Cricketers was nice but certainly not as good as Rose Cottage Inn.

This was our second stay at Bo Peep and it was lovely. John and Eileen are extremely helpful and friendly, we enjoyed a fabulous meal at the local pub, just a short walk away along a beautiful old track at the foot of the Downs. 2nd February 2015:

We both really enjoyed our stay with Eileen and John at Bo-peep Farmhouse and Eileen was very accommodative with our last minute arrangements. The rooms were clean, spacious, comfortable and of a high standard with all the expected facilities. Breakfast was really good from the fruit, juice and cereals to the much anticipated full English! And all served up in a delightful country cottage feel dining room. John and Eileen both went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable and were genuinely thoughful hosts. So glad we stayed! Thank you!

Tips:

Plan your arrival time with some to spare and have a torch to hand or head if arriving later in the day (or dark early evening as we did!) The local pub's food was really tasty. There seemed to be a mix of pub classics and locally sourced/made food. But when in Rome.. The moules, meat pie and fish pie were all excellent! I'm not sure the curry would have been as good (but could be wrong..)
