29th August 2019:

Excellent location for our visit to Glyndebourne although we did miss the turning first time off the road. Perhaps slightly clearer signage for the Farm would help. Very comfortable accommodation and good bathroom facilities. Beautiful house and surround;particularly interesting to be on a working farm and to have the opportunity to talk to the farmer and his wife who were very hospitable and kind. Delicious breakfast and a very warm welcome were much appreciated.

Tips:

Our hosts' advice to visit Berwick Church was taken and recommended. There are other places such as Charleston Farmhouse and Firle Place nearby but which we didn't have time to visit as we went to Seaford on the coast and then to Beachy Head and on to Eastbourne where we enjoyed a delicious fish supper at the Pelican Restaurant off the sea front. We will certainly hope to return to the Farm!

23rd August 2019:

Lower Claverham Farm is a working farm which you approach from the Berwick Road up a single track lane. There are a lot of cows but they are kept away from your vehicle by the owners. I was given a warm welcome, and the room was a comfortable twin room with all the usual facilities you nowadays expect from a B&B. There is only one shared bathroom and this is reflected in the price. (Since I was the only guest, this was not of importance.) Rachel is a charming host and even went out in the morning to buy the newspaper, which I was able to read while digesting my breakfast. At £55.00 for single occupancy, it gives excellent value for money.

Tips:

If you are at Glyndebourne for the night, it is a roughly 15 minute journey by car.

Lovely stay at Lower Claverham Farm. Very welcoming folk.Breakfast excellent with lots of choice. Bed very comfortable. Everything provided in bedroom and bathroom. Only drawback was shared bathroom, but we knew about that when we booked. Lovely to be taken to Glyndebourne and back. If we come to this area again, I will certainly book Lower Claverham Farm

Delightful old farmhouse in tranquil setting. Rachel and her husband gave us a very warm welcome and were extremely kind to us. The bedroom is very comfortable with everything which we could possibly need provided. The only drawback for us was the lack of an ensuite bathroom though we had the shared facilities to ourselves. We knew this when we booked and this was refected in the price which was very reasonable. Breakfast in their farmhouse kitchen dining room was a delightful experience.

It is a marvellous place, with thrush in full voice, but no mechanical sounds beyond the early morning tractor (just to remind us that this is a working farm - and all the better for it).

Tips:

The Plough provides an excellent meal, with excellent and friendly service. Things to do: we weren't there long enough for exploring, but it is well worth visiting Berwick Church and pub. Charleston is nearby and important. Lewes is a beautiful town and has a fine castle.

Rachel was an excellent hostess and happy to conjure up a fantastic cooked breakfast which kept me going through the day. Loved Monty the black labrador. Very glad of a nice cup of tea and biscuit in my room when i returned from a long day and catch up with news on the tv.

Tips:

I was working on some art for the Gunn Inn which has excellent food and staff. Check on line for the full review.

Breakfast was just fantastic!! I would definitively recommend the farm to everyone.

All was perfect, Rachel and her family were super helpful and friendly. If you on foot and not with a car they will help you with transport. Facilities very good, alike 4 star hotel standards: 2 big fluffy towels, coffee, tea, and of course milk from the farm. Even notepads, pens and small torches are provided. We really enjoyed our short stay.

The Rossi’s are a charming and thoughtful family. Nothing is too much trouble. Their home incorporates all that one would hope for in a traditional Sussex farmhouse. A wonderful place to relax, much appreciated by our South African and, this year, our Swiss friends. Both will be returning.

Tips:

We found several things excellent pub restaurants all conveniently close by. For those interested in the Bloomsbury group places like the Monks House and Firle Church are within a few minutes drive. The Rossi’s well understand the needs of visitors to Glyndebourne, many of their guests are as we are regular attendees and come back year on year.

Rachel made us very welcome. The bedroom was comfortable with everything required. The house was the kind of farmhouse we expected to find in Sussex. Breakfast in the kitchen was just lovely.

Tips:

Food - The Plough at Upper Dicker; The Cricketers at Berwick. Sightseeing - walk around Arlington Reservoir; Berwick Church; the South Downs behind Berwick and Firle, the area is called Bopeep. The fort at Newhaven. Lewes and its Castle. Glyndebourne. Seaford Head for a spectacular walk (nice golf course with a lovely clubhouse, anyone can visit for a coffee or meal). Cuckmere Haven (large car park in trees on left as you drive eastwards)

The only reason I put 4 in Facilities is that there is a shared bathroom without a bath, just shower. Absolutely no problem as the other room had not been let during my stay and I am very happy with a shower. We had a very pleasurable stay and Rachel and Paul were extremely hospitable and friendly. Even to the extent of lending me a black tie so that I would not be under-dressed at Glyndebourne.
